December Trail Daze recap

December Trail Daze 2008We would like to give a special shout out to the volunteers that weathered one of the coldest Trail Daze to date: Stephanie Avers, Eric Brady, Michelle Stoddard, Tom Stoddard, Denny Sicharda, Marc Cosby, Wayno, Maggie Rust, Greg Williams, Ron Heard, Melinda Heard and John Ames. We also had two youths, Evan Ames and Marcel Avers. The weather allowed us to sneak out before the storm rolled in and get some much needed work done on the North Yuba Extension.

Some wore ear muffs and ski jackets, others wished they had brought more. It was cold and spit snow on us most of the day. The only way to stay warm was to keep working, which kept the lunch break short. It was so cold that the gas froze in the fuel lines of the pionjar, and after about an hour of messing with it, Henry and Ron got it started. The last effort of the day was from 11 year old Marcel, who got to pull the string on the Boulder Buster and watch as rocks flew through the air and the river canyon was filled with an enormous KABOOM. He was pretty excited about that. This is Marcel's 2nd Trail Daze event.  Read More »

Winter Trail Work Program in full effect

The month of December has blessed us with dry weather, allowing us to do work that would otherwise be unfeasible at this time of year. Third Divide has been receiving the majority of our focus this last week as we prepare the trail for winter. We off-sloped a few hundred feet of tread, installed drains, filled braking bumps and constructed a forest service mandated reroute just above the spring. The reroute provides better line of sight and should help reduce some of the user conflicts between motos going uphill and mountain bikers heading downhill. The new section of trail flows much better and will shed water like a duck.  Read More »

November Trail Daze on the North Yuba

North Yuba Extension Thanks to all the people who came out this weekend to work on the North Yuba Extension. 40 volunteers donated 320 hours to this trail doing mostly bench widening. Luckily, we dodged the storm that blew in later that night. A group of people who stayed for the weekend rode the whole trail the next day and said it was remarkable. The middle section is still not done, but you can hike your bike through it. We will be continuing to work on this trail through the winter and hopefully showcase the whole thing at our next Epic in May. Special shout out to our youth, Blaine (5), Marcel (11), and Chris(17), who were working arm and arm with us the whole day. Here is a note from Chris on his experience this weekend.
