December Trail Daze recap

December Trail Daze 2008We would like to give a special shout out to the volunteers that weathered one of the coldest Trail Daze to date: Stephanie Avers, Eric Brady, Michelle Stoddard, Tom Stoddard, Denny Sicharda, Marc Cosby, Wayno, Maggie Rust, Greg Williams, Ron Heard, Melinda Heard and John Ames. We also had two youths, Evan Ames and Marcel Avers. The weather allowed us to sneak out before the storm rolled in and get some much needed work done on the North Yuba Extension.

Some wore ear muffs and ski jackets, others wished they had brought more. It was cold and spit snow on us most of the day. The only way to stay warm was to keep working, which kept the lunch break short. It was so cold that the gas froze in the fuel lines of the pionjar, and after about an hour of messing with it, Henry and Ron got it started. The last effort of the day was from 11 year old Marcel, who got to pull the string on the Boulder Buster and watch as rocks flew through the air and the river canyon was filled with an enormous KABOOM. He was pretty excited about that. This is Marcel's 2nd Trail Daze event.

This Trail Day was suppoted by Hoppy Brewery, and Scott Rossi who made a generous donation in the amount of $500.00 to SBTS to help cover the groceries for this and future Winter Trail Work days. We widened the trail bed to the rock fin and Henry and Ron managed to blast out a big rock section–setting up a great start to the Winter Trail Work season. With 15 folks working from 10:00 to 3:30 we tallied 82.5 total work hours and 2090 total miles driven for the day.
