November Trail Daze on the North Yuba

North Yuba Extension Thanks to all the people who came out this weekend to work on the North Yuba Extension. 40 volunteers donated 320 hours to this trail doing mostly bench widening. Luckily, we dodged the storm that blew in later that night. A group of people who stayed for the weekend rode the whole trail the next day and said it was remarkable. The middle section is still not done, but you can hike your bike through it. We will be continuing to work on this trail through the winter and hopefully showcase the whole thing at our next Epic in May. Special shout out to our youth, Blaine (5), Marcel (11), and Chris(17), who were working arm and arm with us the whole day. Here is a note from Chris on his experience this weekend.

I enjoy participating in trail construction. I feel it is a great time to get out and expand our riding opportunities and to give back to what we riders enjoy the most. I have a great time accompanying other people who enjoy the mountains as much as I do. Trail work days are a great way to get out, socialize, and get work done. For me, I build trails because I like being outdoors and I like helping out, plus it is great to come back either the next week, or later in life, and ride along and think, hey, I helped make this trail, I was there the day we carved this out. If anyone ever wondered how the trail got there, well this is how.

North Yuba Trail

On Sunday, November 9th, a group of us rode the North Yuba Trail from Downieville to Indian Valley. The ride was 17 miles in total and took about 3 hours, with a shuttle from Indian Valley back to Downieville. The extension portion, connecting Downieville to Goodyears, is incredible and is a project that the SBTS can be very proud of. There is still just over a half mile of trail that needs to be benched, along with some pretty major blasting. The newly installed bridge over the City of Six Creek is really nice, but still needs work on the entrance and exit before it is complete.

The SBTS Trail Crew will be spending 2-3 days per week during the winter months building tread and trying to make the connection. If anyone is interested in spending a few days, or even one day, in Downieville helping us out, let us know, we'll house and feed you in exchange for your labor.
